St. Clair Avenue

St. Clair Avenue Bill Jones Oct. 2007
Blues in E

Looking out my window
Waiting for the day to come
Been up all night
Listening to that Kelvinator hum
Ain’t no use denying
All my world has come undone

Reached in my back pocket
Found a note I got from you
The ink was old and faded
But the message still rang true
It said, I know I tried to hurt you baby
But tell me what else could I do?

I set out to find you
in your mansion on the hill
You wrote in lipstick on your mirror
That you had no time left to kill
You said someday maybe you’d want me
But I don’t believe you ever will.

So meet me after midnight
Down on St. Clair Avenue
Between the burnt out buildings
Where the cottonwoods once grew
Let me give back all I owe you
Then I'll be gone like a bird that flew.
